Introduction
In the face of the challenges of the energy crisis and climate change, renewable energy, particularly solar energy, is becoming an increasingly relevant solution. The integration of digital technology with solar energy opens up great opportunities for efficient and applicable innovations in various fields. Telkom University’s Energy Systems Engineering undergraduate students have a unique opportunity to develop projects that combine these two fields, resulting in smart and sustainable solutions.
Student Project: Integration of Solar Energy and Digital Technology
Here is one of the student projects at Telkom University Surabaya that successfully integrates solar energy with digital technology:
Water Filtration System Based on IoT and Solar Energy
Telkom University Surabaya Computer Engineering students designed a solar-powered water filtration system integrated with IoT technology to help provide clean water in the Central Lombok area, West Nusa Tenggara.
The innovation developed by Risyad Maulana and his team combines several modern technologies in one portable tool, including:
80 Watt Solar Panel – As the main energy source to keep the device operating even without conventional electricity.
Multi-Stage Water Filtration – Uses ceramic, activated carbon, and colloidal silver filters to filter out bacteria, heavy metals, and sludge to produce potable water.
Internet of Things (IoT) – It connects with the Blynk app, allowing users to monitor water quality in real-time via smartphone.
Arduino Uno-based Automated System – Controls the water level sensor, pump, and water quality monitoring automatically.
The system is completely self-contained and efficient, ensuring that people can still get clean water even in remote areas without access to stable electricity.
